All About The Surface Phone:
With the rule of the great pioneers like Apple and Google in the smartphone kingdom, Microsoft too is trying his level best to get in the competition with them. Microsoft has joined hands with Qualcomm technology to bring his Surface phone as a competition to the iPhone by Apple and numerous handsets by Google.
Despite the numerous efforts by Microsoft for making Windows 10 mobile a hit, it was unable to achieve that position with its Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. The Surface Phone would be the last attempt of the company. Microsoft needs to launch a phone that can convert the already invested iOS and Android users to Windows. It is like a challenge in itself.
Devices like Surface Pro, Surface Book and Surface Studio by the Surface team were great hits, let’s see if Surface Phone can stand up to the same standards too.
There is no specific date announced. Though rumours say that it would be release by the first half of the year 2017. Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, in one of his interviews, said that they are working on the “ultimate mobile device”. There is no confirmation on the name of the device, but for sure, Microsoft is launching a new mobile device. Other than this, there has been evidence like the company has obtained the domain “surfacephone.com”. The domain, at present, redirects the user to the homepage of Microsoft but it could be considered as one of the evidence against the name factor. Though usually companies buy the relevant domain names to avoid the competitors from obtaining it, so the chances are that the domain may never be used too.
According to some sources, the company is planning to stop the manufacture of Lumia, formerly Nokia and in the same month, the launch of this new mobile device is expected.
Rumours say that the device would be available in three variants. As per one rumour, there would be three editions for the device: Consumer Edition, Business Edition and the Enthusiast Edition. Our assumptions are that the Consumer Edition would be the one that would be reasonable in price, Business Edition would be the one for corporate usages like Blackberry and Enthusiast Edition be like one of those power user devices like Samsung Galaxy Note. Though nothing could be said regarding the designs for the same.
Another rumour says that the device would be all metal aesthetic adopted just like all the other Surface devices to stand by its name and standards.
There have been rumours that all the devices would have a 5.7-inch screen display with three versions:
- Version 1: 3GB RAM / 32GB storage
- Version 2: 6GB RAM / 128GB storage
- Version 3: 8GB RAM / 500GB storage
Hardware and Software:
It is likely that the Surface Phone would come packed with the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset. The highlights of this chip are that the chip is Qualcomm’s first 10nm processor which means it would be much more efficient than its ancestors. There would be either 40% less power consumption or 27% higher performance depending upon its usage by the manufacturers. Microsoft would make use of this chip is confirmed by Microsoft’s announcement of a partnership with Qualcomm in December’16 at WinHEC event in China. Microsoft is planning to bring the full Windows 10 desktop experience to smartphones and other mobile devices.
Other than that, there is not much information on the hardware for the device.
In terms of software, the device is expected to run Windows 10
The cost for the device is expected to be $699 – $ 1100 (roughly Rs. 48K – Rs. 75K ).
So the question arises should we or should we not wait for this new device? I would say that if you have faith in the name of Microsoft, then you may wait but keeping the past mobile track, it may / may not be worth it.
